Our charity was established in 2003, to promote and provide for the benefit of the public any activities connected with the education and promotion of lifelong learning, enhancement, improvement, maintenance and protection of the environment and landscape.
Our purpose is detailed in our Memorandum & Articles of Association and includes:
- promotion and delivery of educational and environmental learning opportunities for young people and disadvantaged groups
- promotion and provision of residential and countryside experience opportunities
- promotion and provision of community education and lifelong learning
- promotion of sustainable development
- providing an appreciation of the natural environment, its protection and relevance to the social and economic wellbeing of the community
- promote for the benefit of the community the use and enjoyment of the natural environment
- promote the development of other groups and collaborative working with partners in support of our
educational and environmental objectives
What we do
- we manage 130 acres of woodland which includes 80 acres which is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Scheduled Ancient Monument
- we maintain 4.5 kilometres of footpaths in support of our objective to provide access to the natural environment
- we deliver a broad range of land-based programmes for adults which includes specialist interventions for vulnerable adults
- we deliver alternative and main stream educational programmes for children and young people
- we provide residential experiences to charities, schools and other groups
- we provide a range of community programmes which include owl prowls, tree identification and guided walks
- we employ our own staff including a tutor team and provide a diverse range of volunteering opportunities including woodland rangers, conservation and administration
